Wilson Teo is the head coach, captain, and head coach of Absolute Beach Boys — Singapore’s most family-friendly wake surfing and wakeboarding school operating from Pier #5 at Marina Country Club.
With over 20 years of boating experience on Singapore’s waters and 7+ years dedicated to coaching riders of all levels, Wilson has taught more than 1,800 students — from complete first-timers to families, kids, and corporate groups. His teaching philosophy is simple: patient, clear, step-by-step coaching delivered in real time via microphone while you ride. Most of his students are on the board and riding independently within a single 2-hour session.
Wilson’s connection to the water began long before wake surfing became a sport in Singapore. He started boating in his early twenties, drawn to the freedom of being on Singapore’s coastal waters — the calm mornings off Northshore Drive, the golden late-afternoon light that anyone who has ridden here knows well.
He discovered wakeboarding through the growing community at Marina Country Club, where he eventually began operating as an independent boat captain and coach. For several years, Wilson was one of the most recognised independent coaches working through Ryders Singapore — one of the country’s largest and most established wakeboarding operators. Many of the customers who found their way to Absolute Beach Boys today first met Wilson on the water during those years. If you rode at Ryders and remember a Mandarin-English bilingual captain with a calm coaching style and a patient approach with beginners — that was Wilson.
In 2018, when wake surfing began gaining serious popularity in Singapore, Wilson saw the opportunity to launch something of his own. Something more family-focused. More inclusive. A school where beginners felt genuinely welcome rather than rushed, where children could ride alongside parents, and where even the family dog could come on board.
Absolute Beach Boys launched at Pier #5, Marina Country Club — the same location where Wilson had spent years on the water. He knew the spot’s conditions inside out: the calmest morning windows, the best tide positions for a clean wave, how the late-afternoon wind behaves in different seasons. That local knowledge transferred directly into the quality and consistency of every session.
Today, Wilson captains the ABB 23ft MasterCraft — equipped with Auto WakeShaper and Auto Ballast system — and coaches every rider personally via the boat’s microphone system. He is proficient in both English and Mandarin, which means riders from every background get the same clear, precise instructions regardless of language. He holds his CPR and First Aid certification, his MPA Port Limit Steersman licence, and takes the safety of every passenger — two-legged or four — as his non-negotiable first priority.
Seven years and 7,200+ hours on the water later, Wilson’s approach has not changed. Every session is still run exactly as he would want his own family to experience it: safe, patient, genuinely fun, and with the door wide open for absolute beginners.
What makes the ABB approach different from every other operator in Singapore.

I knew Wilson from the days he was coaching at Ryders — always remembered his calm, methodical way of explaining things. When I heard he had started his own school, I did not hesitate. Brought the whole family. Both kids were up on the board within the first hour. Wilson has not changed one bit — still the most patient coach on the water.

The microphone coaching is something else entirely. Wilson was speaking to me clearly while I was riding — telling me exactly what to adjust in real time. I have had coaches shout from the dock and coaches explain on the boat afterwards. This is completely different. I progressed more in 2 hours than in my previous 3 sessions elsewhere.

My son has autism and can be very sensitive to new environments and noise. Wilson was briefed before the session and adjusted everything — the way he explained instructions, the timing, even the speed. My son not only made it onto the board but asked to come back the following weekend. I cannot put into words how much that means. Wilson gets people.

Organised a corporate team-building session for 6 colleagues — five of whom had never wakeboarded before. Wilson had everyone up by mid-session and even got our most hesitant team member to drop the rope and wake surf hands-free. He made everyone feel capable. That is a rare skill.
