Wakesurfing & Wakeboarding FAQ — Singapore
Everything you need to know before booking with Absolute Beach Boys
Booking & Pricing
How much does a wakesurfing or wakeboarding session cost in Singapore?
Sessions are priced at S$190 per hour, with a minimum booking of 2 hours. This covers 1 captain and coach, all equipment, life jackets, fuel, and up to 7 passengers — making it excellent value when shared across a group. We also offer package deals for regular riders:
- Starter Pack: 10 hours · S$1,750 (save S$150) · valid 6 months
- Mid Pack: 30 hours · S$4,950 (save S$750) · valid 9 months
- Premium Pack: 60 hours · S$9,300 (save S$2,100) · valid 12 months
What is the minimum booking duration?
The minimum session duration is 2 hours. This gives you enough time to warm up, get comfortable on the water, and actually make progress — whether you are a first-timer finding your footing or a regular rider working on new tricks. Sessions run in 1-hour increments after the 2-hour minimum.
How many people can join one session?
Each session accommodates up to 7 passengers on the boat. Our 23ft MasterCraft has capacity for 8, with one spot reserved for the captain and coach. Every session is a private booking — no strangers will ever be added to your group. You pay for the boat, not per person, so the more people in your group the better value it becomes.
How do I book a session with Absolute Beach Boys?
Booking is done online. Head to our Online Bookings page, choose your preferred date and time, select your session duration, and indicate whether you want to wakesurf, wakeboard, or both. You will receive a confirmation with the exact meeting point and pre-session instructions. Can complete beginners join a wakesurfing or wakeboarding session?
Absolutely — the majority of our riders are first-timers. Our coaches are experienced at teaching beginners from zero, with a patient step-by-step approach. You will start with a full safety briefing on the boat, then learn the basics at low speed before building up gradually. No prior surfing, boarding, or water sports experience is needed. We have been coaching first-timers in Singapore for over 7 years and know exactly how to get you up on your first session.
What age can kids start wakesurfing or wakeboarding?
Children as young as 8 years old can join a session. Kids often learn quicker than adults — their lower centre of gravity is actually an advantage on the water. Our coaches adjust wave size, boat speed, and coaching style to suit each child. All children wear a correctly fitted life jacket, which we provide in all sizes. Parents are very welcome on the boat to watch, cheer, and join in.

Practical Questions
What should I wear for a wakesurfing or wakeboarding session?
Wear a swimsuit or boardshorts — you will get wet. A rash guard or UV-protective swim top is strongly recommended to protect against Singapore’s sun, as you will be on open water for the full session. Avoid wearing jewellery or loose accessories. Bare feet work best on the board. Life jackets are provided and worn over your swimwear for the entire session.
What should I bring on the day of my session?
Here is a quick packing list:
- Swimwear worn under your clothes
- Towel and a change of dry clothes
- Sunscreen — apply before you arrive (reef-safe preferred)
- Water shoes or sandals for the pier walk
- A waterproof bag or dry bag for your phone and valuables
- Positive energy and a willingness to fall — falling is part of learning!
We provide boards, life jackets, complimentary bottled water, and all essential equipment. You do not need to bring your own gear.
What happens if it rains on the day of my session?
Light rain does not typically affect sessions — you are already getting wet, and the water is often smooth and glassy during drizzle. We monitor conditions closely before every session. In the event of a thunderstorm, strong winds, or conditions that are unsafe on the water, we will reschedule your session to another available date at no charge. Safety is always our absolute first priority. We will contact you in advance if conditions look problematic.
Is wakesurfing safe?
Yes — wakesurfing is one of the safer water sports when practised with proper supervision and safety equipment. Here is how we keep every rider safe:
- All team members are trained in First Aid and CPR
- Every passenger wears a life jacket for the entire session
- Sessions are conducted in sheltered Singapore waters away from heavy marine traffic
- Our captain monitors all riders at all times via the microphone coaching system
- Captain Wilson Teo holds a Port Limit Steersman licence with 7+ years of coaching experience
We follow all Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) regulations. Your safety is never an afterthought.
What is the difference between wakesurfing and wakeboarding?
Both sports are done behind a boat, but they feel completely different:
Wakesurfing
You ride the boat’s wake without holding a rope. The wave is created by the boat’s ballast and WakeShaper system — once you find the sweet spot of the wave, you can ride completely hands-free. It feels closest to ocean surfing. Speeds are lower (around 10–12 knots), making it gentler on the body and perfect for all ages including kids and older riders.
Wakeboarding
You are attached to the boat via a rope and handle throughout the ride. Speeds are faster (around 20–23 knots) and you use the rope to launch off the wake for jumps and tricks. It feels closer to snowboarding or skateboarding. The learning curve is slightly steeper but trick progression is extremely satisfying.
Not sure which to try? Book one session and do both — our MasterCraft switches between wakesurf and wakeboard modes instantly, so your group can mix it up in a single outing. Most groups try wakesurfing first, then move to wakeboarding once everyone is comfortable on the water.
